Northern Exposure will be held in Minneapolis at the University of Minnesota campus from Friday, April 4 – Saturday, April 5, 2025.

The conference will be held at the Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication in Murphy Hall (206 Church St SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455).

A reception on Friday, April 4 will take place at 7 pm. You do not have to be registered for the conference to attend the reception!

Lunch on Saturday, April 5 will be a short walk away at the Recreation and Wellness Center (a .2 mile, four minute walk from Murphy Hall).

Dinners are on your own and are not included in the registration fee.

Air Transportation

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is located 12 miles from the University of Minnesota. MSP is served by all the major airlines, and is a Delta hub and home to Sun Country Airlines.

Ground Transportation

By Car, Taxi, Uber or Lyft

The MSP airport is located 12 miles from the University of Minnesota. Travel time is approximately 30 minutes. There are taxi and ride share pickup spots.

Light Rail

METRO light rail from the airport is available, and the East Bank station is one block from Murphy Hall, directly in front of the Graduate Hotel.

From either airport terminal, take the Blue Line toward downtown Minneapolis. Change trains at the US Bank Stadium or Government Plaza stops to catch a Green Line train toward downtown St. Paul. The East Bank stop is two-three stops away.

Both Blue and Green Line trains run approximately every 10 minutes.

Travel on the light rail system is generally safe in the daytime, especially between downtown and the University. Evenings and especially late night can be a little sketchy, and you may want to choose other transit options the later it gets.

Parking

There are several parking ramps and lots near Murphy Hall on the East Bank, the closest of which are the Church Street Ramp or the Washington Ave. Ramp. General parking info is here. There is limited metered parking in the area.

Hotels

We have several options available in walking distance from the conference location at Murphy Hall.

The closest hotel is the Graduate, Minneapolis, which is two blocks from Murphy Hall. Guests can book a room at the UofM business rate at the Graduate here. You can also call (612) 379-8888, ask for reservations, and request the UofM business rate.

Other area hotels offer University rates. Simply identify yourself as a University guest when making your reservation. Rates are not guaranteed – please book your room early for the best options. Note that the hotels below will involve taking a car or Light Rail to the conference, or a bit of a walk. There are numerous other hotels in the area, too!
